Land PAWS Water Safety

25th May, 2025

Fifth & sixth class participated in the Land PAWS Programme, which is an educational water safety initiative, developed by Irish Water Safety. Its main purpose is to teach children essential water safety skills in a classroom setting, before they engage in activities near or in water. This workshop complements the P.E. and S.P.H.E. (Social, Personal and Health Education) curriculums.  The children learned how to be safe near water at home, in the countryside, on farms, and at the beach or pool.  They recognised water hazards and learned basic rescue skills (like “shout, reach, throw – don’t go”). They also learned about emergency procedures and calling for help.
