Exploring 3D Shapes in Sixth Class

27th May, 2025

In alignment with the guiding principles of the New Primary Mathematics Curriculum, we designed a series of interactive stations to foster a productive disposition towards mathematics, encourage meaningful mathematical talk, and promote playful exploration of 3D shapes. At the first station, children used matchsticks and playdoh to construct models of 3D shapes. At the next station, students engaged in a card sort activity, where they categorised 3D shapes based on their name, properties, real-life examples, and visual representations. At the final station, learners explored 3D shapes and their nets using the Amplify Polypad app. The digital tools allowed children to manipulate and unfold shapes, deepening their understanding of how 2D nets form 3D objects.
